Organic Sweet Potatoe, overseas season update

Sweet potato update

The European sweet potato season is coming to an end. We would like to inform you about our overseas season.

Eosta has secured production of organic Sweet Potatoes in Brazil and the USA. Because the qualities of good organic sweet potatoes at producers in a number of European countries did decline faster than expected and the quantities are no longer large either, Eosta has decided to import this earlier.  Here is an overview:

USA
In parallel, we also have programmed product from North Carolina in the USA. The expectation is that we will have this available for sale from week 18. The variety from the USA is the protected Covington variety. This sweet potato has a somewhat pinkish skin, but is orange in flesh colour.

Brazil
From week 19 we will have sweet potatoes from Brazil available. The variety is Beure Beauregard. The Beauregard has orange tuber flesh and has a healthy and vigorous growth and in principle it is available year-round. Production takes place in an environmental protection area in Goiânia, Goiás, in the heart of Brazil. Although organic sweet potatoes are their specialty, they also grow broccoli and maize as crop rotation to keep the soil fertile.

Natural branding and net packaging growing

In recent years, sweet potatoes have become increasingly popular. To sell the product well, Eosta has two concepts: Natural Branding and the Cellulose net

For more than 5 years, sweet potatoes have been provided with an organic label, a private label and/or PLU with Natural Branding. This is not only the cheapest, but also the most sustainable way to sell the product distinctively on shop shelves.

At natural food chains as well as retail, the next packaging seems to be growing even faster: Eosta has acquired a special net machine that allows sweet potatoes to be presented in  cellulose net. Among customers who introduced net-packing, we see that sales in the same shop shelves increase by almost 30%.
